I captured this image of Abrams Falls in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I was late getting on the trail due to circumstances a bit beyond my control. The sun was setting behind the horizon when I’d reached the half way point going to the falls. I passed a couple that informed me that they were the last people at the falls and that I would have them all to myself. It was a beautiful trail and hike. I made it to the falls with enough available light to capture the falls.
I captured this image using my 24-70mm, tripod mounted and using a circular polarizer. Thanks for stopping by.

It’s so lush, and the water is abundant. I hope you didn’t have to hike far with that kit. Maybe your 24-70mm is lighter than mine. 🙂
2.5 miles one way on mountainous terrain with my full kit. (Approx. 65 lbs.) It wasn’t terrible but, I have had easier hikes. That 65 lb bag feels much heavier than that after a couple of miles. (:
You’re kidding 5 miles with 65 pounds! I only carry a full pack when in training for back-packing, or am not straying too far from the car otherwise I go lite.
At least you’re keeping fit and strong!
I’ve conditioned myself to carry the full pack. It seems anytime I leave lenses behind, I end up needing them.
🙂 I’ve regretted not have a lens a time or two as well. Now-a-days when I go out with one camera/ one lens I condition my attitude before hand telling myself the day is about…landscapes, wildlife, or night sky, so I don’t get hung up on missing anything or have regrets about that stuff.
I’ve regretted not taking a shot or botching a shot in any case…that’s enough of regret for a day! 🙂

I’m happy to back and it’s good to hear I was missed, Ken and Agnes. I’ve been busy with the technology side of things as of late. I’ve recently upgraded my storage solution, moved to a new computing platform and also moved my primary site to a new host all in the last few weeks. It’s been chaotic to say the least. With all of that said, I’m in a great place to grow now and I’m spending more time in the field. I’ve really missed it. I hope you guys are doing well.

Beautiful! But a 65 lbs pack, wow!
LOL. I have to be certain that I have the perfect glass when I get to my destination. How horrible would it be to drive for hours then hike for hours to get the perfect capture and realize you brought a 24-70mm when you really needed a 70-200mm. Sure you can get some captures and crop them down. But, if you’d had all of your glass, you could have gotten a better capture. The sacrifice of carrying a heavy bag is worth it to me. Although, I can see the merits of carrying a point-and-shoot and saving yourself the aggravation of a heavy pack. It’s just not for me.
